The school holidays are here, and if you’re looking for something fun, meaningful and screen-free for your child to do in Lagos, Read to Lead at SBA READS could be just what you’re looking for. This August, SBA READS Book Club is bringing children together for a special holiday reading experience designed for young readers aged 3 to 17 years. Taking place at the SBA READS Bookstore in Surulere, Lagos. Read to Lead will give children the opportunity to enjoy stories, discover new books, meet other young readers and take part in activities that make reading feel less like schoolwork and more like fun.
What Is Read to Lead?
Read to Lead is a children’s holiday reading event created to encourage children and teenagers to develop a positive relationship with books and reading. Rather than treating reading as another academic task, the event is designed around stories, conversations, creativity and social interaction.
Children can look forward to:
- Interactive reading sessions
- Storytelling
- Book discussions
- Opportunities to meet and socialise with other young readers
- Reading materials provided during the event
- Snacks and drinks
The aim is simple: to give children a few enjoyable hours away from their usual holiday routine and help them experience books in a relaxed and engaging environment.
A Holiday Activity for Children Aged 3–17
Read to Lead is open to children and teenagers between 3 and 17 years old. Whether your child already loves reading, enjoys listening to stories or is still developing an interest in books, the programme is designed to give them an opportunity to participate at their own level.
For younger children, storytelling and interactive reading can make books more engaging. Older children and teenagers can take part in discussions and connect with other young people who share an interest in stories and reading.
Meet Our Special Guest: Amina Olalekan

We are also pleased to welcome Amina Olalekan (@intentionalmarriagebyamina) as our special guest for the event. Amina is a transformational coach, therapist, author of more than 25 books and family-life minister. Her work focuses on identity, emotional well-being, intentional living and helping families build strong foundations. Her experience as an author and her work with families and young people will bring another dimension to the Read to Lead experience. We are looking forward to having her spend time with the children, share from her experience and encourage them to think about the role that stories, books and personal development can play in their lives.
Why Choose a Reading Activity During the School Holidays?
School holidays give children a chance to rest, explore their interests and try activities outside their normal school routine. For parents, however, keeping children engaged throughout a long holiday can sometimes be challenging. Finding activities that are both enjoyable and beneficial doesn’t have to mean filling every day with structured lessons. A reading event can provide a simple alternative: children can spend time with books, listen to stories, talk about what they are reading and meet other children in a relaxed environment. And for parents who are trying to reduce screen time during the holidays, Read to Lead offers an opportunity to introduce a different kind of activity without making it feel like extra schoolwork.

A Simple Way to Make the Holiday More Interesting

Sometimes, a few hours spent listening to a good story, discovering a new book, talking with other children and meeting inspiring adults can be enough to create a memorable experience.
If you’re searching for holiday activities for kids in Lagos, children’s activities in Surulere, or simply something different for your child to do this August, Read to Lead offers an opportunity to combine reading, fun and social interaction in one morning.
